Skill Test credentials now co-issued with SUNY Binghamton

SUNY Binghamton has joined the Redrob Skill Tests co-issuance programme. Candidates who clear a covered assessment now receive a credential carrying both marks, verifiable by anyone, with no Redrob account required.

That takes the panel to three: New York University, UC Riverside and SUNY Binghamton.

What co-issuance means here

It is not a licence and it is not a logo. The university is on the credential because the university has a say in what the credential means.

Assessments in the programme are paid, proctored and human-reviewed. A sitting costs the candidate money, is invigilated, and ends up in front of a person. Each of those three is a filter, and a certificate that has passed none of them is worth roughly what it cost to print.

The result is portable. A candidate can take it anywhere, and an employer can check it without signing up for anything.

Why a university at all

Because the value of a credential is entirely a question of what a hiring manager believes about how hard it was to get, and belief is not something a platform can grant itself.

Only 3.7% of Indian graduates hold a white-collar job within a year of finishing. The bottleneck is not that they cannot do the work. It is that the screening step employers used to run themselves has quietly disappeared, and nothing replaced it. A degree says where somebody studied. It does not say what they can do on Monday.

A credential co-issued with an institution that has spent a century being answerable for what its name means is the closest thing to a replacement we have found.

Where it stands

820,000 Skill Tests have been taken so far. The programme runs alongside the placement and credentialing work we do directly on 400 Indian campuses, out of 1,338 nationally, including at the IITs, NITs and IIMs.

Results feed back into matching, so a credential is not only proof for an employer. It is also the thing that makes the next shortlist better.
